Real Madrid vs. Real Salt Lake
We enjoyed the privilege of attending the Real Madrid vs. Real Salt Lake soccer (football) game on August 12th. The team played at the University of Utah football stadium, and it looked like the stadium was pretty much sold out. I have enjoyed watching the team play. Having Real Madrid come and play would be analogous to the Bulls (back in their Micheal Jordan days) coming and playing the local basketball team in some foreign country. David Beckham, a very famous player on Real Madrid played in the game (featured in the photo, number 23 just after having kicked the ball).
It’s too bad that Real Salt Lake didn’t win the game. The score was 2-0 in favor of Real Madrid, but we were still happy to have been able to watch the game.
A new stadium for Real Salt Lake will be built in Sandy, Utah, and we’re excited about that.
It was announced at the game that Real Madrid may come back and play Real Salt Lake when the stadium is built for the Real Salt Lake team. Sandy City will be the host city to the Real Salt Lake Team. I wonder if now they’ll need to call the team Real Sandy…the name just doesn’t carry the same ring to it.
We almost lost having the team stay in Utah if they didn’t get a stadium deal worked out. It’s exciting that they are going to move forward with the stadium and will be closer to Utah Valley residents as well.
