Grandma Wheatley by Michelle Wheatley Moon
Grandma
When I went to your house
Some of the best times I had
Were lying on the bed
Hearing stories about my Dad
I knew you were great
Because you were the mother
Of my trouble-making Dad
And all of his brothers
A BB in the leg
A foot in the pie
You told stories so well
The hours flew by
We would visit your house
And run to the magic door
Because you were there
We knew treats were in store
Sometimes we played games
Or outside we went
The lilacs were in bloom
And you treasured the scent
We would gather some branches
And put them in a vase
The lavender blooms
Still put a smile on my face
You sang songs about puppies
And chocolate ice cream cones
And every year on my birthday
You called me on the phone
I miss your songs and poems
Your stories and your games
Without you here, Grandma
It just isn't the same.
