Harris, Carole Benon (Nov 5, 1925 – May 8, 2000) by Lester C. Wheatley

Benon Wheatley by Lester Wheatley

Carole Benon Harris Wheatley (Topsy) sweetheart wife Friend
Helpmate Mother – Grandmother.

Born Nov. 5, 1925 – May 8, 2000

Born in Grace, Idaho – and lived and went to school in many
Idaho towns as her father was in the telephone construction business for the
Bell Tel. Co – moving around didn't seem to bother her as a youth as she made
friends wherever she went.  They ended up
living in Pocatello, Idaho and she went to high school there.

            I also
lived in Pocatello a little over a year before I went into the Air Force Jan
18, 1943 but I never knew Benon until I returned home on a leave in October
1945.  Benon worked for the Union Pacific
Railroad (time keeping and payroll dept.) after high school and earned enough
money to attend 1 year of college at the University of So. Cal. With her close
friend, Katherine Reese (Woods).  While
home on leave I got a date with Katherine whom I had known before I left for
the service – we double dated and Benon was the other girl – so that's how I
met Benon.

            After I got
discharged from the Air Force – mid Nov – 1945 I looked up Benon for a date and
that's how it all started.  She was a
young vivacious energetic young lady and I liked her right away.

            I worked
for the railway express co. that winter.
Benon was going to Idaho State University and working 4 to 12 PM so was
really busy.  We dated some that winter
but nothing serious.  I helped my dad on
the farm (Arbon Valley) and then attended BYU in Sept. 1946.

            When I came
home to Pocatello during Christmas vacation 1946 we both decided it was for
real.  June 1947 we became engaged to be
married on Sept. 14, 1947.  We moved to
Provo until 1949 when I graduated from college.
Kim was born Jan 30, 1949 so that kept her very busy.  Benon loved and enjoyed her family from the
minute they were born, all six sons.
