Pictures can be worth a thousand words, but if there is no story behind the picture, or you don’t know who is in the picture, those thousand words can be whittled down quite a bit. That’s one reason why family history stories are so important. Get to know the people in the pictures within your family history archive by researching the stories about them.
Bytheway, the picture at left is of Michael and Martha Wheatley. Michael and his family came to America in 1861 which was the first year of the Civil War. The transcontinential railroad was completed in 1869 and commissioned in 1862, so the Wheatley’s weren’t able to ride that train over, and came across the plains to Utah as pioneers.
