Eagle Condor Humanitarian

I read an article in LDS Living entitled “Helping Others to Fly” from the March/April 2005 issue. At first glance, the article looked like it covered a service organization that helped people in South America; however, as I looked more closely at the article, the location of focus for this humanitarian effort is Chiclayo, Peru which is where I served my mission for the LDS Church! The relief organization is called Eagle Condor Humanitarian and they have all sorts of education programs as well as micro-credit programs to offer the people of Chiclayo. The article stated that the people subsist on less than $1 per day per person. After speaking with my dad about the article, he said from what he’s seen in doing business in China, wages in China are better than what people are making in Peru.

I think it is a fantastic endeavor and is the type of thing that many of us should be involved in who live in better circumstances to help others who are struggling.

Featured in the picture are some homes on the way from Chiclayo to Piura that I took while on my mission. Many families do not have electricity or water in their homes. Many struggle to have enough food to feed their families.
