Device cannot start. (Code 10)

Problem: “device cannot start. (Code 10)”


Solution: Perhaps you need more power.

Upon attempting to install a new 1394A Fireward PCI card in my computer, I received a “device cannot start. (Code 10)” error indicating that the device was not working properly. It turned out that the device needed more power that it could get from the PCI slot. Fortunatley, the card had an External 12 Volt connector. I changed the jumper settings on the card as indicated in the card instructions and connected a 12 Volt cable that was available within the computer, and it worked great after turning the computer back on.
