Complete Windows Crash Recovery Tips

Problem: Windows crashes and will not boot into Windows.

Solution: Try the recovery console by using your Windows install disk.

Note: You are not going to reinstall Windows only recover.  Don’t
choose any options for setting up Windows along the process.

1. Put your Windows CD in your CD drive and boot your computer to
   the CD.  You should see a prompt on the screen asking you if you
   want to boot from CD.  Press the space bar to boot from CD.
2. Windows will start from the CD and will prompt you for which step
   you want to take. Open the recovery console by pressing "r" on the
   keyboard.
3. Select the installation of Windows you want to work with (you’ll probably only have one).
4. You may be prompted for the administrator password.
5. Enter chkdsk /r at the prompt for a recovery and fix of errors on your disk.
6. When the process is finished, type exit
7. Remove your CD and let the system boot up normally.
