‘Tis the Season

We visited both the Jubilee of Trees and the Festival of trees this year. Autumn saw Santa at both festivals, waived and said “hi” and even received a candy cane from him.

Megan and Autumn have had fun with the Christmas decorations around the house. We’ve all enjoyed watching Christmas movies and hot chocolate to keep us warm.

Live Nativity 2007

Live Nativity

We had the chance to visit a live nativity. At first, I thought that a live nativity was a bunch of people standing outside posing as shepherds, wisemen, etc. Oh no, this live nativity was different. People were dressed in apperal of the times of Jesus showing what life was like back then. We saw live sheep, horses, a camel, and a donkey. We sampled some bread and watched a rug being made. Of course, there was a “nativity” scene with a couple portraying Joseph and Mary.

The nativity was hosted at the home and barns of a friend of ours, and we really enjoyed it

Christmas 2005

Merry Christmas from the Wheatley Family! It’s been a pretty eventful year, and we’re certainly glad that Christmas time is here and that we can enjoy the Christmas spirit with our friends and neighbors.

Today, December 23, also marks the 200th birthday of the Prophet Joseph Smith. An official website has been created by the LDS Church called http://www.josephsmith.net which has lots of good information from those who knew the prophet.

The Wheatley Family did something different at the extended family party this year. Instead of exchanging gifts among the adults, each adult was to perform an act of service, write down the service without indication of who performed the act, and bring the paper with the story to the family Christmas party. The stories were placed in a Christmas stocking and were then later distributed at random among the adults when all were gathered together. Each person that had a story given to them then read a story of an act of service that someone performed during the year. It was a great activity, and it didn’t take up any space in the car to take home when the party was over!

Festival of the Trees – 2005

We had the pleasure of attending the Festival of the Trees today. Some of the highlights were the gingerbread houses, the jazzy Christmas music, and of course, the decorated trees.

Autumn loved looking at the different trees especially those that had dolls or little cars. She would also waive at people as we walked by.

The trees are decorated and donated to the festival by various individuals and organizations and then are auctioned opening night before the festival opens for general viewing. All of the money raised is donated to Primary Children’s Medical Center.
