Administrative Share

Problem: How do I access files on the hard drive of a remote computer?

Solution: Connect to the remote machine on your network through an adminsitrative share.

  1. Type in the Run prompt:
    \\thecomputername\C$
  2. Press OK and you will be prompted for an administrator name and password.

Once logged in, you can transfer files, changes rights,
etc.

    This
solution also shows how dangerous it is if one of your administrative
passwords gets out. If someone had your username and password, they
could perform this administrative share to gain complete control over
what’s on your hard drive.
